Announcement of the 2020 “1st Globe-Law Cup” International Arbitration Writing Contest



The Beijing Globe-Law Law Firm (Globe-Law) is sincerely looking forward to your participation in the 2020 “Globe-Law Cup” International Arbitration Writing Contest.  It is our humble objective that via this event, younger generation of professionals interested in international arbitration receive valuable opportunities preparing for their prospect careers.  We also hope that participation of this event can help law students to sharpen their research and writing skills in the field of arbitration.  In the meantime, we expect that the event itself provides professionals in the field of international arbitration with a platform to effectively communicate and exchange ideas.  We sincerely invite all participants of this event to join us in our future events related to international arbitration in 2020, such as the seasonal “Globe-Law International Arbitration Salon.”  

As a comprehensive and international law firm with its main office based in Beijing, Globe-Law has been persistently hosting events related to international arbitration, providing our colleagues and professionals in the field with a solid platform of effective communication.   Many of our senior partners are experienced arbitrators from well-known arbitration institutions such as the Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center.

(1) Eligibility and requirements:

i. The writing contest is open to all practitioners, scholars, and students from around the world.

ii. All submissions should be between 3,000 and 12,000 words, inclusive of footnotes. Co-authored submissions are permissible.

iii. All submissions should be in English and must be in conformity with established citation and reference styles, such as The Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).

iv. Submissions are to be emailed as an attached Word document to arbitration@globe-law.com, with the subject “Submission for Globe-Law Writing Contest 2020”.

v. Submissions should be limited to academic papers, case studies, and research reports that have not been published in any form, including online. Papers that do not fit the scope of the topic or have been published publicly will not be accepted for evaluation.

vi. Participants should ensure that the submission is original work; Participants acknowledge that they can be held legally liable for relevant legal responsibilities such as copyright infringements.

(2) Deadline for Submission:

i. The deadline for submission is: 1 February 2020.

(3) Instruction and suggestion on writing topics:  

i. Participants are free to choose the topic of their essay to the extent that it relates to international arbitration, including but not limited to one of the following topic areas:  

a) International commercial maritime arbitration and other related issues

b) International investment arbitration related issues: such as ICSID, SCC, Beijing Arbitration Commission, and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission

c) Various studies on actual arbitration practice

(4) Prizes

i. Authors of prize-winning works can get priority internship and study opportunities.

ii. In furtherance of the writing contest, we invite all participants to join us in the arbitration salon and related activities in 2020.

iii. Specific reward amount is yet to be announced.
