Overview of Copyright Cases I:

  • Copyright, celebrity performance brokerage and other legal affairs, such as: film and television drama, sports events, film and television companies, TV stations and their new media companies, long and short video platforms, games, music, books, writers, artists, celebrity endorsements and performance brokerage, and other authorized rights protection and business planning work. Maocheng Sun has several years of legal work experience in cultural and creative industry companies and more than ten years of experience as a legal counsel and litigation attorney. He has served or is serving as a legal counsel for many clients (such as CCTV, Beijing TV, Shandong TV, Chongqing TV, CHINA IPTV, Kuaishou, Anhui Publishing Group/ Bejing Times Chinese Press, Jilin Fine Arts Publishing House, Teresa Teng Foundation, Tencent Music Entertainment Group, Lu Zheng, Xuelan Wu, etc.) and stars (such as Xun Zhou, Bichang Zhou, Chusheng Chen, Ye Gao, etc.) in copyright and surrounding industries.   • Helped clients (companies and stars) successfully carry out the production, planning, management, trading, rights protection and value-added of copyrights; promoted copyright companies or websites to reach authorization cooperations with each other; represented more than 1,000 copyright and copyright surrounding lawsuits (including entities and networks).


Some Anti-unfair Competition Cases:

  • Represented Xuelan Wu in filing a lawsuit against Petroleum Industry Press in infringement of the book name of “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace”; won the case (the court determined that the words “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace” constituted an influential commodity name, and ordered Petroleum Industry Press to compensate RMB 210,000).
  • Represented Kuaishou in filing a lawsuit against Sony in the unfair competition dispute over the product name, packaging and decoration that have certain influence (including pre-litigation act preservation, facilitating high-amount settlement, and the settlement amount is bound by confidentiality clauses).
  • Represented Kuaishou in filing a lawsuit against Shenzhen Wondershare Technologyfor in the unfair competition dispute over hidden keyword bidding ranking (won in the first instance and the second instance).
  • Represented Kuaishou in filing a lawsuit against a Chengdu business startups and innovation enterprise in the unfair competition dispute over account trading, false propaganda, violation of business ethics and the principle of good faith (including act preservation and property preservation, etc.).
  • Represented CCTV International in filing a lawsuit against Shenzhen Xin’gan Yi Sou in the unfair competition dispute over broadcasting of Rio Olympic Games (obtained compensation of RMB 2.99 million).


Some Copyright Cases: Film and television dramas, sports events, long and short videos, games and other categories.

  • Represented Kuaishou in responding to the claim filed by Tik Tok for the short video of “Hi, Mom” with the amount of RMB 10 million; won the case (the safe haven rule was successfully applied).
  • Represented Alibaba’s subordinate game company in responding to the lawsuits filed by a Beijing company in the game infringement; won the second instance (avoided losses of more than RMB 100 million).
  • Represented Jiaxing Youchen in responding to the lawsuit filed by Beijing Lewan SNK in the copyright infringement of four games of“The King Of Fighters”, “The Motion Picture”, “Samurai Shodown” and “Metal Slug” (responded to the infringement of foreign-related games, with the subject matter of RMB 50 million).
  • Represented CCTV in filing a lawsuit against Yidianzixun in the infringement of GIF animation in the 32nd Summer Olympic Games (supported by punitive damages in the second instance and obtained the compensation of RMB 5 million).
  • Legal planning of Zhou Xun’s “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace” and other series of film and television works (big IP).
  • Legal planning of Nanpai Pan Entertainment’s “The Graver Robbers’ Chronicles” and other series of film and television works (big IP).
  • Represented CHINA IPTV in filing a lawsuit against Hebei Telecom and Hebei Mobile in the copyright infringement (obtained the compensation of RMB 28 million and facilitated the parties to reach an authorized cooperation).
  • Represented CHINA IPTV and local telecom operators in responding to the infringement cases filed by Suning Sports Chinese Super League and AFC Champions League IPTV Platform  (successfully avoided losses of RMB hundreds of millions).
  • Represented Beijing New Media Company (directly affiliated to Beijing TV Station) in responding to 40 cases filed by MIGU Video in the infringement of live broadcast of CBA matches (successfully represented and caused MIGU Video to withdraw the lawsuit).
