On the morning of September 8, at the 4th Haisi Central Legal District Forum's 2024 "Belt and Road" Exemplary Legal Cases Release Ceremony in Xiamen, the cross-border maritime dispute case of a Singaporean shipping company handled by Globe-Law Law Firm's Dalian Office was selected as a 2024 "Belt and Road" Dispute Resolution Exemplary Case.

Case Title:Singaporean Shipping Company's Cross-Border Maritime Dispute Achieves Complete Victory, Recovering Millions in Losses

Case Details:

This maritime cargo transport contract dispute was adjudicated under Singaporean law per the parties' agreement. Attorneys Jiang Yun and Liu Rong from Globe-Law's Dalian Office represented a Chinese equipment manufacturer (one of the defendants). After thorough case analysis, the team submitted dozens of written submissions on key issues including:

• Applicable law
• Litigation parties
• Foreign law ascertainment
• Liability determination
• Statute of limitations
• Compensation amounts

The team also presented multiple rounds of legal opinions on Singaporean law findings, comprehensively articulating their position to the court.

The court engaged a legal ascertainment service to identify and accurately apply relevant Singaporean legal provisions, ultimately determining the parties' liabilities. Neither party appealed the first-instance judgment, demonstrating their acceptance of both the judicial process and outcome. This case achieved the dual objectives of precise foreign law application and effective dispute resolution, while contributing valuable experience to improving China's foreign law ascertainment mechanisms.

Given its landmark significance, the case was also selected as one of the Supreme People's Court's Third Batch of Exemplary "Belt and Road" Cases.
